iPhone 2018 OLED Models to Get Apple Pencil Support: Report
Apple is expected to launch three iPhones this year.
    Highlights

Apple Pencil support said to come to the upcoming iPhones
Only the OLED models will reportedly get stylus support
Taiwanese chip maker Elan likely to be the supplier

Apple is set to launch three iPhones this year, and the top two premium variants are expected to get support for the Apple Pencil. A fresh report suggests that Taiwanese stylus chip supplier Elan will be the Cupertino giant’s supplier this year, and this move is to drive adoption of the iPhone models. Apple has never supported a stylus on its phones before, with tablets and the MacBook being the only products that supported the feature. This move could also drive sales of the Apple Pencil as well.
Economic Daily News reports that the two OLED display variants incoming this year will get Apple Pencil support. This corroborates a recent report that suggested the same thing a few days ago, lending more weight to its legitimacy. The lower end LCD display variant is likely to miss out on this support, and this will be the highlighted difference between the OLED and LCD variants. Elan is like to be the stylus chip supplier, as mentioned above. It remains unknown whether the Apple Pencil will be bundled with the iPhones, or will be sold separately.
The report also states that currently only 10 percent of the market uses a stylus on a tablet or a smartphone, and most prefer to use a stylus on a laptop. However, that will reportedly change after Apple introduces Apple Pencil support for the new OLED iPhones this year. Other OEMs tend to follow Apple’s footsteps, and the next year could well be the year of the stylus (if this report is true that is).
In any case, if the new iPhones indeed get stylus support, it will directly compete with the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 which introduced a new S Pen that came with Bluetooth support for additional feature capabilities. Apple’s three variants are expected to be one 6.5-inch premium variant with an OLED display, another 5.8-inch iPhone X successor, and a 6.1-inch LCD variant which is expected to be priced relatively cheap.

    Exclusive: iPhone XS
Exclusive: This is ‘iPhone XS’ — design, larger version, and gold colors confirmed

Earlier today Apple officially announced when and where it will hold its next big event. Apple’s September 12th event is expected to include the introduction of three new iPhones, and 9to5Mac can exclusively share the first look at both new 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch OLED iPhones: the iPhone XS.

    iPhone Xs Max
iPhone Xs Max’ likely name for 6.5-inch OLED flagship, sources say

Last week 9to5Mac exclusively shared the first look at the new iPhone Xs models due to be officially announced by Apple on September 12. We’ve since learned that Apple has considered the name “iPhone Xs Max” for the larger 6.5-inch version, according to two sources familiar with Apple’s marketing plans

Included in our reporting last week was the new detail that “iPhone Xs” will be the name of Apple’s new OLED models while confirming two size options and a new gold finish for the stainless steel sides. We’ve since heard that Apple will likely use “iPhone Xs Max” as the marketing name for the larger version of the new models.

Apple has offered two size versions of the same generation of iPhone since the iPhone 6, assigning a modifier to the larger version, but “Plus” has been the label before now. iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max are expected to replace the pattern started by iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple has considered dropping the “Plus” label for this year’s larger version.

In addition to the confirmed details, the new iPhone Xs and Xs Max are expected to include 4GB of RAM, up from 3GB, dual SIM options in some markets on the larger model, and a speed boost with a new A12 chip.

Apple has already announced that it will hold its next special event on September 12 at Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. Apple will unveil the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, a mid-sized LCD version that will cost less than the iPhone Xs models, the Apple Watch Series 4, and more
